Abstract
This thesis explores activists' ability to physically occupy space in order to demonstrate their intended social change goals. It employs a combination of historical, archival, and discourse analysis based on research methods in relation to the following case studies: Critical Mass, the Civil Rights Movement, and Black Lives Matter. Source material will primarily be drawn from web and photo-based archives.
