Abstract
Joseph Eichler and his company Eichler Homes were part of the post-World War II housing boom. They designed and built tract housing for middle-income buyers that incorporated innovative architectural design features. "Eichlers" stood out from the typical tract housing because of these features. Forty years later "Eichlers" retain their uniqueness. This research paper discusses Joseph Eichler and his company, the places where the houses were built, and examines some of the changes that have occurred in several subdivisions.
